Your life as a business owner may not be what you had in mind when you started.
Not that is all bad, but there may be some hidden truths about it…
Are you having fun?
Would you say this is what you´ve dreamed of in a business?
You may be putting all the time in your business, getting a decent income, but not quite living the dream.
Let me ask you: Do you think is possible as a business owner to work less hours while increasing your sales, deliver to amazing customers you like (or even love) AND have fun?
I promise you I am not talking BS here, just keep reading.
IT IS possible to grow your business doing all of the above, and that is how all the “lucky” guys do it.
That is how “big” companies go big.
And that is what this site is all about.
In a nutshell this is how you become a business owner ninja:
1) Get your numbers straight (the ones that really matter to YOU)
Your business has expenses and sales and sales and all that. Accounting is necessary and useful, but those are not the numbers I am talking about.
You start focusing on the numbers that are actually FUN for you, specially how much money you want to make.
Then, you break up all the sales needed to get to that number. If you are “hoping” to get more sales, without having this ideal number as your measuring stick, you are just moving through the motions.
Get your ideal income number, and break that up on monthly, weekly and daily sales.
You then start structuring your plans, efforts and monitor your effectiveness on this daily number alone.
This is more than simple goal setting.
You do not “wish” for your ideal income to magically manifest by having clarity on your numbers.
You actually start structuring up your work, factor in expenses, time and efforts in order to make this numbers a reality, so you have to be realistic and acknowledge if you have to make changes in order to make your numbers realistic.
This not only allows you to measure your results against a concrete number, but most importantly, it frees you of many so called “important” responsibilities that others have made you believe are important. Stop confusing being busy with productive and get effective by using this numbers as your main guide.
2) Reaching the customers that are looking for you
Once you´re clear on your numbers, you then find ways to amplify your current business. And you do this by a set of means of communication, which most people refer to as marketing.
This can include your website, a blog, advertising, marketing and social media, to name some.
In order to get more customers, you must communicate with them first.
And this HAS to be a strategy, or you will be just broadcasting messages to the broad blue sky, hoping someone will respond to it (and some may, but it would be a matter of chance, not a response by design).
You have to know who you´re talking to
In order to build your strategy, you have to know your customers like you know your best buddies.
Once you get to know them like that, you then and only then, craft your message to them, adapting it to the format of their preference.
By crafting the right message and a proper use of marketing, advertising and a smart online presence, you will attract like a magnet the customers you choose to and no customer in your business will be the result of chance or luck. You have everything at your control to attract as many customers as you like once you get this right.
If you let your marketing in the hands of “experts” or other people, you will be very likely wasting your money. Not that you can’t outsource, but if you don’t know your customers, you won’t know what language to use.
And if you, as the business owner don’t know this, Why some agency or marketer would know it??
Do your homework first and THEN decide how you will move on with marketing.
3) Build a money making machine
Once you have set the stage for a growing business, through your numbers and through an effective communication strategy, you then have to set the stage for delivering to your new customers.
You will have to treat your customers like royalty, but also be sure to have all set up within your organization, so you can over-deliver in ways they do not even expect.
All this can easily and inexpensively be done with proper planning, top notch management and depending on your business, some online tools.
You then focus on building the right team of people working at your business, so you can plan for all of the above and turn the machine on. Once all your systems are up and running, you can just become a witness of how your business grows and address any flaws or tweak your operations for even better performance. You do not “find” or “get” the right team, you create it.
But any of the above will ever work permanently, no matter how hard you try, as you first have to…
4) Get your act together
(yep, that means becoming responsible, productive and organized!)
This is the rock solid foundation on which all of the above completely rely upon.
And yet, no business expert seems to be talking about this one.
The good news is, this is by far the easiest side to tackle as a business owner, since it depends on how you get to have more fun.
By addressing your personal life, you get the MOST leverage to effectively address all the aspects related to your business.
Without fully integrating your life into your business, and creating a healthy, stimulant balance among them, you are set for burning yourself out and hitting repetitive cycles on the sales of your business.
Without having fun in your life, you become negligent, and this makes you become unclear about your numbers, lack the capacity to know your customers, can´t build a team of stars and therefore, no matter what you do, your business will not grow (and neither will you). And viciously become unmotivated to do any of the above.
Enjoying your life and making your business an enjoyable part of it, can make or break the growth of your business.
As you can see, you can set your business for ease and growth or for mere survival and stagnation.
And YOU get to decide this.
Not the market, not the economy, not the “experts”.
You Do.
It´s just a matter of having the right tools, systems and strategies in place, so you can be in control of your business and not the other way around.
